Living Younger Through Science Since 1999.
Losing weight is a constant battle for both men and women, no matter the age. Luckily, for those who live in San Diego, Total T Clinic has the answer. In June of 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Semaglutide for weight loss. This is the first drug for chronic weight loss management that has been approved since 2014.
Semaglutide, known commercially as Ozempic or Wegovy, works by mimicking a hormone called glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1). GLP-1 plays a role in digestion and appetite regulation, causing you to feel full so that you eat few calories.
After you’ve eaten a meal, Semaglutide stimulates your pancreas to release insulin and blocks a hormone that causes your liver to release sugar, lowering your blood sugar level. It also slows down how quickly food leaves your stomach (called gastric emptying), causing you to feel full longer.
Semaglutide is administered with a small diabetic needle subcutaneously or Sub-Q.
While other medications in its drug class sometimes need to be administered daily, Semaglutide only needs to be used weekly since it continues to work in your body for a longer period of time.
